Regulatory valuation services are a specialised form of business valuation services designed to comply with regulatory requirements and are typically required by regulatory bodies and government agencies. Regulatory valuation services help companies manage their risk while suggesting ways to mitigate risk. Fairness Opinion

Fairness opinions provide an objective and independent evaluation of a proposed transaction. These are often used by the board of directors or other stakeholders in the decision-making process to provide confidence and reassurance that a transaction is fair and in the best interests of all parties involved. 

Share-Based Payment Valuation (IFRS 2)

Share-based compensation valuations are typically required for financial reporting purposes, such as under US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The accuracy of the valuation can have significant implications for the financial statements and metrics of a company, along with compensation packages of employees and stakeholders. 

Purchase Price Allocation (PPAV) (IFRS 3)

Purchase Price Allocation (PPA) valuations involve identifying and valuing the assets and liabilities of an acquired company, including tangible assets, such as property, plant and equipment; but also intangible assets, such as data, software, confidential information, patents and trademarks. The fair value of these assets and liabilities can then be used to calculate the goodwill or bargain purchase gain arising from the acquisition. 

Impairment Testing (IAS 36)

Impairment testing assesses if an asset’s carrying value on the balance sheet may no longer reflect its fair value. The process is typically conducted annually or whenever there is an indication that an asset may be impaired, such as a decline in market value or a change in the economic environment. 

Goodwill Valuation

Goodwill is typically calculated as the difference between the purchase price of an acquired company and the fair value of its assets and liabilities (the remaining amount is recorded as goodwill). This valuation is important for companies which may be subject to regulatory oversight and are engaging in acquisitions and mergers. 

409A Valuation (Internal Revenue Code)

409A valuations are required by the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) at least once every 12 months for private companies that issue equity-based compensation to employees. These valuations also need to be updated if any material changes occur to the company's financial condition could impact its value.
